Marking its 25th anniversary, the World Harmony Run-- a 50-state torch relay-- passed through the Kane area Thursday.
The runners and their support group spent Wednesday night in Clarion and were scheduled to reach Ellicottville, N.Y. by Thursday night en route to New York City.
Taking turns, runners carried a torch as they ran their legs on Route 66, Route 6 and Route 219 in the Kane area.
This global relay run travels the world to encourage goodwill, harmony and friendship at the local level. Relay runs occur in some 100 nations throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia.
Since the inaugural Run in 1987, endorsements have come from many world figures, including President Nelson Mandela, President Mikhail Gorbachev, Pope John Paul II, Mother Teresa, state governors and city mayors.
