The Kane Lady Wolves volleyball team looked like they were going to make it a quick night in their season opener against St Marys, winning the first two sets, 25-22 and 25-10. The Lady Dutch, however, were not anxious to leave Kane and won the next two sets by a scores of 25-23, setting up the fifth and final set. The home team trailed 14-11 at one point, but rallied to win the set 16-14 to win the match and start the season 1-0.
Audrey Perry led the Lady Wolves in the first set. A kill by Perry tied the score at 21, and the senior followed up with an ace to make it 22-21. Kane head varsity volleyball coach Judy Kessler’s team really scrambled on the next point, with great volleys by both teams before Kane won the point. Nikki Sicher registered a kill to give her team game point, followed by an error by St Marys that gave the Lady Wolves the first set.
The two teams played even to begin the second set. Tips by Kaila Jamerson and Perry put Kane up 10-9. Morgan Nicholson had a huge game at the service line, serving for 13 straight points, leading her team in the second game.
