Peter R. Romanick, 88, of Natrona Heights, passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013 with his family there.
He was born June 16, 1924, in Blairsville, the son of the late Peter and Mary Polka Romanick. Peter was a veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Army.
He was stationed in the southern Philippines, Louzon and New Guniea. Peter received the Purple Heart, southern Philippines theater ribbon with three bronze stars, American theater ribbon, Philippine Liberation ribbon with 1 bronze star, the Good Conduct ribbon, the Victory Medal, and the bronze star medal with 10 oak leaf clusters.
He graduated from the Hershey State Police Academy. Peter retired in 1979 after 29 years of service as a Pennsylvania State Policeman. While with the State Police he also worked as a criminal investigative specialist. After retiring Peter worked as a night watchman for the Natrona Slag Company. He was a member of Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament R.C. Parish, Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Natrona Heights and the Retired State Police Association. Peter enjoyed hunting and gardening. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Bednar Romanick; his children, Joyce Empfield of Natrona Heights, Judy (Thomas) Pampuch of Harmar, Barbara (Robert) Samuels of Arnold, David (Jody) Romanick of Charlotte, N.C., Deann Romanick of Germantown, Md., and Debra (Jeff) Cohen of Sarver; four grandchildren, Jaclyn Empfield, Samantha Pampuch, and Griffin and Hadley Cohen; two step-grandchildren, Alex and Lindsay Beveridge; and by his brother, Joseph Romanick of Kane.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Steven Romanic,k who was killed in action during the Korean War; and by his sister, Josephine Romanick.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Peter was held on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 10 a.m. in Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Natrona Heights. Burial with full military honors was in Mt.
