Lewis I. Stidd, 86, of 13 Phillips St., Mt. Jewett, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at UPMC Hamot in Erie.
Born Dec. 10, 1926, in Guffy, he was a son of the late Irvin and Mildred Pair Stidd. On June 24, 1989, in Mt. Jewett, he married Mary Lou Swanson who survives.
While still in school, Lewis and several friends worked the ore boats on the lakes. After graduation, he joined the Army, spending one year in Italy. After the war, he worked in several of the area oil fields. He and his best friend, John Anderson, later owned the Skyline at Lantz Corners for almost 30 years.
Mr. Stidd was a member for over 50 years of the Masonic Lodge #566 in Kane and was a lifetime member of the Mt. Jewett American Legion Post #574 and the VFW Post #6347, both in Mt. Jewett.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, Mary Lou Stidd, are three daughters, Janey (Nick Pisani) Stidd of Union City, Amy Sweeney of Greensboro, N.C. and Kathy (Scott) Sluga of Mt. Jewett; a son, Richard Irons of Lititz; a daughter-in-law, Frances Stidd of Pittsburgh; five grandchildren, Tom Sweeney, Lewis Pisani, Dakota Sluga, Serena Sluga and Nichole Sluga; and several nieces and nephews including Bill "Willard" Swanson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Raymond L. Stidd; two brothers, Harry Stidd and Rozell Stidd; and two sisters, Ruth Salamon and Dorothy Stidd.
Friends will be received Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Cummings Funeral Home, Inc. in Mt. Jewett where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Dr. Darrel Justh, pastor of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial, with full military honors accorded, will follow at Bridgeview Cemetery.
