HAMLIN TWP. – Six people were killed Saturday evening in a fatal two-car crash on state Route 219 at Mead Run Road in Hamlin Township, McKean County.
Kathy Douglas, age 36, of Kane, driving a 2005 Jeep Liberty, suffered serious injuries in the crash along with a 10-year-old juvenile. Two other juveniles, ages 12 and 6, died in the crash.
All four occupants in a second vehicle, a 2004 Pontiac Bonneville, died. They included Gary Beimel, age 62, Elaine Beimel, age 55, David Cuneo, age 54, and Florence Donachy, age 81, all of St. Marys.
Douglas was reportedly traveling south on SR 219 and for unknown reasons crossed the double yellow lines, striking Beimel's vehicle in a head-on collision at 4:24 p.m. Saturday, Aug 31. Beimel's vehicle came to rest in the northbound lane while the Douglas vehicle rotated in a clockwise manner becoming coming to rest facing north off the east side of the roadway.
Douglas and the 10-year-old juvenile were flown from the scene to trauma centers for car of their injuries. The other six individuals involved in the crash were pronounced dead at the scene by the McKean County Coroner's office.
SR 219 was closed for approximately six and a half hours for crash investigation and cleanup.
PSP Kane were assisted by the Mt. Jewett Volunteer Fire Department, multiple ambulance services, STAT Medivac, PennDOT, Buzards Towing, McKean County District Attorney's office, McKean County Coroner's office, Pa. State Police Collision and Accident Reconstruction, PSP Kane, and PSP Ridgway.
The crash is still under investigation.
