Sally Nelson O’Brien, 53, died at home on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013 in Durham, N.C.
Sally was born in Wooster, Ohio on Aug. 2, 1960 to Maxine and Tom Nelson, of Ludlow, who survive. Also surviving is her husband, Larry O’Brien, and her two daughters, Jessica Blakely and Amy Blakely, also of Durham, N.C.; two sisters, Gwen Nelson (Mike) Bengfort of The Woodlands, Texas, and Patty Nelson (Chris) Merrifield of Atlanta, Ga.; and a niece, Maggie Merrifield.
She attended schools in Charleston, W. Va., Gainesville, Texas, and Houston, Texas. She received her B.A. degree in Modern Dance from Sam Houston State University, Huntsville, Texas.
Sally was a certified personal trainer and fitness coach. She enjoyed her music, literature, cooking, and being with her family and her many dear friends.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Dec. 1, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1200 W. Cornwallis Rd., Durham, N.C. 27705. After the service, there will be a gathering for fellowship, remembrance, and reflection at Metro 8, 743 Ninth St., Durham, N.C. 27705.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions in Sally's name be made to the YMCA Lakewood, 2119 Chapel Hill Rd., Durham, N.C. 27707 or to a church or charity of the donor’s choice.
