Raymond L Stidd, 60 of Oakdale, died suddenly on Oct. 20, 2010. He was raised in the Mt. Jewett and Lantz Corners area, and graduated from Smethport High School. He was the son of Lewis Stidd of Mt. Jewett, and Ginger (Anderson) Stidd, also of Mt. Jewett, and was the beloved husband of Frances (Case) Stidd of 33 years. Ray leaves behind a daughter, Tammy (Bob) Mersing of Oakdale; a son. Eric (Renae) Yerdon of Center Township was grandfather of Noah and Taylor Yerdon, and Dylan Mersing; two sisters, Janey (Nick) Stidd of Erie, Amy Beth Sweeney of North Carolina; a step mother Mary Lou Stidd, Mt Jewett; a stepsister, Kathy (Scott) Sluga of Mt. Jewett; and a stepbrother, Rich Irons, of Lititz. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Ray served in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam Era, and was an avid hunter and sports (Steelers) fan. He will also be missed by his dogs Dusty and Lucy. He was employed as a welder contractor for Federouche. Ray was a member of the Bob Swanson Detachment of the Marine Corp League, American Legion Post 574, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6347 of Mt. Jewett and the Mt. Jewett Sportsman’s Club.
Friends were received 12-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday Oct. 24, 2010 at the Thomas Little Funeral home in Oakdale and a burial service was held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday Oct. 25, 2010. Interment followed at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. In Lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the USO of Pa. and Southern N.J. Philadelphia International Airport, Terminal A, East Philadelphia, Pa. 19153, check memo on Wounded Warrior Program, also the Mt. Jewett Veteran’s Memorial Club and the Mt. Jewett Sportsman’s Club.
