Betty Jane Johnson, 89, of Sena Kean Manor, Smethport, passed away peacefully Wednesday (Dec. 2, 2010) at her residence.
Born on April 6, 1921 in Crosby, she was a daughter of Harry J. and Ida M. Swanson Timmerman. She graduated from Smethport High School in 1939. On Dec. 14, 1940 Betty was married to Quinten C. Johnson in Smethport officiated by the Rev. Leonard D. Peale. The couple would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this month.
Betty is survived by her husband, Quinten; a daughter, Dianna (Frank) Blair of Fairfield; two sons, Ted (Debbie) of Tallahassee, Fla., and Roger (Tammy) of Jesse, W. Va.; four grandchildren (Douglas Blair, Michelle Blair-Carter, Nathan and Sheena Johnson), as well as three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Annabelle Christensen and Mabel Johnson.
Quinten and Betty were nearly lifelong residents of Hazel Hurst where she was active for many years as a Sunday School teacher and choir member of the Methodist Church. Her priorities throughout her life were caring for her family, her church activities, and the enjoyment of her many friends. She will be remembered for her generosity, kindness, and most of all, her sense of humor.
Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10 at the Cummings Funeral Home in Mt. Jewett. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday in the Hazel Hurst Methodist Church with the Rev. W. Craig Smith officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Nebo Cemetery in Mt. Jewett.
