Local Companies Will Demonstrate Here In September
Company M and Headquarters Company, Pennsylvania National Guard, under command of Captain William D. Wise, Lieutenant Max E. Coon and Lieutenant Samuel W. Moore, will stage a monster demonstration of modern warfare on the companies’ rifle range, two miles west of Kane, on the Wetmore road, on or about Sept. 15.
The demonstration will be the largest ever staged in Pennsylvania, and many officers of high rank in the P.N.G. are expected to be here to witness it.

Johnsonburg Paper Plant Has Biggest Production in U.S.
The new paper machine at the Clarion mill of the Castanea Paper company was put in production Monday morning. The machine is a 200 inch one and is one of the largest in the United States. The machine and cost of construction will be close to $1 million and the latest improved machine in the world. There is one other in England that is larger but not so modern. The local machine has a much larger capacity and will increase the paper production at the local plant many million pounds each month.

Animals Grazing 3 Miles From Kane Unafraid Of Tourists But Flee Horn
A party of tourists, who arrived in this city from Erie early this morning, and breakfasted at one of the local restaurants, reported an experience which, according to their statements, they thought could happen only in Yellowstone National Park. While driving on the Roosevelt Highway three miles west of this city, they came upon a herd of six large deer and three fawns, which were grazing along the edge of the woods near the roadside.
They stopped the machine and watched the animals, which were beautiful specimens, for several minutes, and although they were within a few yards of the herd, no move toward flight was made.

Auto Is Stolen While Owner Watches Show
Machine Parked On Baseball Diamond Was Stolen Between 8 And 10 Last Evening
An Essex coach, the property of James Banks, of Durant City, was stolen from its parking position on the Kane baseball diamond last evening between the hours of eight and ten.
Banks, who was watching the medicine show, which is being held on the grounds this week, returned to the place where he had parked his car earlier in the evening and found it missing.

Mushroom Picker Encounters Bear Near Fleming Farm
Hunting for mushrooms is one thing and finding a bear instead is another thing, but that is just what happened to a well known man who is engaged in the manufacturing business not more than five miles from Kane. The gentleman in question is very fond of mushrooms and at this particular time of the year he can be seen roaming about the fields in Kane and vicinity at early morn in quest of this delicious plant.
It was while on a mission of this kind, that the man referred to, came upon a bear in a field about two miles southeast of this city, and opposite the Fleming farm on the Smethport road, early yesterday morning.

The tales of “Sinbad the Sailor,” or “Gulliver’s Travels,” fade into insignificance beside the experiences of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Baxter of Sioux City, Ia., who arrived in this city yesterday afternoon and took up their abode at the New Thomson Hotel, having almost completed a 50,000 mile hike, started in Washington, D.C., December 14, 1921, and covering every state in the Union, seven provinces in Canada, Mexico and Cuba.
