Tim on All-America Second Team
Thursday must have been a big day for Penn State senior safety Tim Montgomery. But Saturday will be even bigger. Montgomery and teammate Ted Kwalick, Coach Joe Paterno’s impressive tight end, were awarded second team berths Thursday on the Associated Press Offensive and Defensive All-America teams announced from New York.
But Montgomery, of Kane, Pa., will have to be excused if the achievement is subordinated for a day or two.
Saturday he’ll be married to Penn State coed Judith Rumbaugh in Skaneateles, NY.
Coach Paterno said of his star safety, “Montgomery is the single most important man on our defensive team. If there is one player whose loss would hurt us most, it would be Montgomery. He’s done a tremendous job all season and has been an inspiration to the defense.”
In the team’s 29-20 victory over Syracuse, he was credited by his coaches with 25 tackles, 16 unassisted.
