Wolves defeat defending AML Champion Port Allegany

In front of a good crowd in the Wolves Den the Kane wrestling team picked up their biggest win of the year as they defeated defending AML Champion Port Allegany.Cody Blankenship got Kane off to a great start as he picked up a pin over his opponent. In one of the most anticipated matches of both regional qualifiers from last year, Jon Gelsick defeated Lucas Manning, 7-1."What I thought was the most exciting match of the night, John Welch gave up five quick points early to Dalton Caden but fought his way back to trail only 6-5 with a minute left in the match," said coach Swartwood. "Welch was not able to gain control and Caden held on to earn the victory. John needs to be more aggressive when he has the chance to win the match."The Wolves held a slim 37-33 lead going into the final match of the evening. Josh Kibbie closed out the night for the home team as he controlled Nick Budd for most of the match and picked up the final win 7-1 to give Kane the team victory."It was a great win and to get it in front of the home crowd makes it even better," Swartwood said. "I thought the kids did a great job but I also thought we could have done a little better in some of the matches."The team will get only one day rest and will be back on the mat Thursday when they host Cameron County.
